With the expansion and reinvention of Museum Mensch und Natur into BIOTOPIA - Naturkundemuseum Bayern, a long-held dream will become reality: The establishment of a modern, comprehensive institution in Bavaria that creates an awareness of our impact on the planet. With an expanded gallery space and the latest museum infrastructure, BIOTOPIA is taking this core idea of Man and Nature into the future.
Objects from Museum Mensch und Natur will play a vital role in this, of course. Not only will public favorites find a new home. Objects hidden in the depots and from former special exhibitions will also be on display. Likewise, future special exhibitions will draw from the collection from time to time. In this way, the spirit and charm of the Museum Mensch und Natur will live on in BIOTOPIA.
The following objects provide an exemplary glimpse of how, according to current planning, we are thinking of incorporating them into the new concept. This includes the thematic context as well as the particular stories they can tell - stories about our relationships with other lifeforms, scientific processes and practices, as well as the scientific practice of collecting.
A visitor survey in 2018 identified a number of objects that are particularly popular among museum visitors. You can learn if the objects listed are "favorite objects" by rolling your mouse over the image.
