New Exhibition in BIOTOPIA Lab: Quiver, Bait, River

28 July 2025

Did you know that tiny builders live in many of our rivers and streams? The larvae of caddisflies build small houses out of sand, gravel, and plants—known as cases. Starting August 1, you can discover them at BIOTOPIA Lab!

Fly fishermen are very familiar with these small insects. To be successful at fishing, they try to imitate the appearance and movements of caddisfly larvae with homemade lures.

These animals are a sign of good water quality and can also be found in the Isar River. This was not always the case: around 20 years ago, the Isar was freed from its narrow canal bed and redesigned to be a more natural river. A real piece of wilderness in the city!

See fascinating exhibits from the Bavarian State Natural History Collections! In addition, the BIOTOPIA Lab in the Botanical Garden offers exploration and hands-on stations as well as exciting insights into the world of fly fishing.

Opening hours:
Fridays: 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Saturdays & Sundays: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
