Ekkeland Götze: PICTURE OF THE EARTH
August 4 2022 - January 8, 2023

For more than 30 years, the Munich artist Ekkeland Götze has been working on an image of the EARTH. To do this, he extracts EARTH from previously determined sites within clearly defined individual projects. He prints this pure, unmanipulated EARTH onto paper or other substrates using a standardized process he has developed, terragraphy. The resulting squares are first of all an authentic image of individual places. But beyond that, they have a spiritual dimension, are a platform for intercultural communication as well as an associative space that each viewer fills with his or her own thoughts, memories and hopes. Ekkeland Götze always attaches particular importance to the involvement of local people, especially indigenous groups.
indigenous groups.

In the Museum Mensch und Natur, Ekkeland Götze will be showing pictures from projects on all continents from August 4. His travels have taken him to the Amazon region, to the Sioux in North America and to Australia and New Zealand, as well as to Japan, Iceland and Madagascar. In recent years, he has devoted himself intensively to glaciers. He makes their decline, caused by climate change, visible in a very special way by creating prints with earth covered by ice for thousands of years. At a time when the EARTH is subject to immense changes and dangers due to human influence, his art brings this problem to people's attention.

The Artist

EKKELAND GÖTZE was born in Dresden in 1948. He worked as a painter, screen printer and engineer and graduated from the evening school of the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. In 1988 he moved to Munich and from 1989 made the EARTH the subject of his art. Since then he has been working on this theme with great intensity and consistency. For his conceptual IMAGE OF THE EARTH he realized projects on all continents of the EARTH.
