The workshop, part of the Flower Power Festival 2023, will take you into the world of phytography. Learn the principles behind the technique and make your own little works of art to take home.

Based on the work of Oxford-based artist and filmmaker Karel Doing, this workshop will use the effects of daylight and plant chemistry to reveal the delicate outlines of plants with internal structures of leaves, flowers and petals in subtle colors.

Your instructor Dr. Sabine Schultes will first explain the technique of phytography, place it in the historical context of experimental photography, and go into the biological and chemical relationships. After the introduction you will design your own phytographic experiments under guidance.

Dr. Sabine Schultes is a natural scientist with many years of experience as a lecturer. She became acquainted with black and white photography as a child, when she exposed and developed films in the darkroom with her father.
