We make every effort to communicate the corona regulations in force at the Lab as up to date as possible on our website. Nevertheless, please also inform yourself about the current regulations for museums. In the section "Contact & Opening Times" you can inform yourself about our current regulations:
During the 2022 Pentecost vacations, BIOTOPIA Lab is expanding its offerings:
From February 28 to March 6, we'll be open daily from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., with our free vacation special program.
You can just drop by and join in without pre-registration!
Unfortunately, we cannot offer an extra program for larger groups, such as after-school groups, at this time. Please note that we can currently only welcome a limited number of people in the Lab at any one time.
Recommended for explorers of all ages!
This experience can also be easily combined with a visit to the Museum Mensch und Natur, which is only a 12-minute walk away.
Our Lab Pilots are happy to show you the exhibition areas of the BIOTOPIA Lab and invite you to exciting themed-days with great hands-on activities. You can find the program below. Don’t miss the chance to fly as a bird over Bavaria's landscapes with our virtual flight simulator Birdly.
Daily from 10 a.m. -4.30 p.m.
Our current Corona Rules apply to visits to the BIOTOPIA Lab: You can find out about them in the "Contact and Opening Times" section. There you will also find our hygiene concept.
With our virtual reality flight simulator "Birdly" you can fly over the most beautiful landscapes of Bavaria during the holiday week and become a bird.
Birdly can be tried out daily between 10 am and 4.30 pm during the holiday weeks, depending on availability. If there is a high demand, you may have to wait a little. We invite you to use this time to explore the other areas of the BIOTOPIA Lab!
To fly with the Birdly, the "wingspan" (fingertip to fingertip) must be at least 1.20m.
We look forward to a voluntary donation for the use of Birdly.
Create your own hermetosphere with small plants and a little imagination.
We ask you to bring your own screw-top jar (500-1000 ml) for this program if possible (e.g. old pickle or jam jar).

Fungi for Future
We take a look at the wide-ranging world of fungi and discover how to start your own small mushroom farm. For this purpose, we microscope Petri dishes with fungi mycelium, show how to grow mushrooms on coffee grounds in the kitchen and how waste paper becomes a valuable raw material with the help of mushrooms.

Humus sapiens
Far more than just the "dirt" beneath our feet, Earth is a truly complex and dynamic ecosystem. Let's explore this invisible world together.
We'll learn about a range of tiny creatures in the soil that ensure that all animal and plant remains can be broken down and recycled.

We will take a small excursion into molecular biology with a hands-on experiment. To illustrate the building blocks of life, we will work together to isolate DNA from a banana.

We feel the teeth of lynx and tapir, look at the skull structure of an elephant and rhinoceros and recognize the difference between carnivores and herbivores.

Water is a unique substance! Thanks to the special properties of water, many exciting experiments can be done with it. While looking through the microscope, you will discover small creatures in a water sample from the Schlosskanal.

The BIOTOPIA Lab is an interdisciplinary space that builds bridges between life and environmental sciences, art and design and society. We are planning small and larg events at which experts from different scientific, cultural and political backgrounds join the general public to explore, question and redesign our relationshipwith the living world.
From panel discussions to hackathons to hybrid event formats - the Lab is an open invitation to everyone who is interested in a change of perspective. Creative collisions and cultural “clashes” also find a platform here. We look forward to collaborative event ideas according to the motto: "Do It With Others" (DIWO).
